Summary Description and Scope of PositionThe Compliance Manager APAC will be the primary compliance advisor for all Leica business operations in the APAC region excluding China. The successful candidate will work closely with APAC operations and commercial leadership, participating in management and team meetings, providing compliance support for daily business operations - including manufacturing, sales, marketing, and clinical activities and strategic initiatives. The Compliance Manager will perform a wide variety of hands-on Compliance work, business advisory as well as Compliance program development.
Specific Role/FunctionsThe Compliance Manager APAC will be responsible to:
- Develop, update, foster and implement our global and regional Compliance strategies and initiatives, as well as applicable local industry norms, local laws and codes.
- Appropriately communicate and provide timely and value-added guidance and advice to all internal stakeholders including local management, sales teams, etc. on compliance-related matters, throughout all business divisions.
- Manage and support implementation and necessary adaptations of our Compliance tools and systems in coordination with the global Compliance team.
- Organize and conduct regional Compliance Committees together with the Regional Business Head.
- Ensure the local compliance risks are identified, assessed, and reported, including proper documentation and follow up with the Committee.
- Keep appraised with local Laws and Code affecting compliance-related matters keeping the global Compliance team informed within these in due time as well as potential impact for the Compliance organization and agree on needed actions.
- Identify and report compliance issues that may require investigation, according to the company standards and local Laws and Codes.
- Conduct/support compliance investigations in APAC.
- Set-up and maintain a solid process for monitoring and control activities to detect any deviations to the interactions from the business with healthcare professionals, government officials, third party providers, business partners etc. and, when applicable, implement the needed remediation measures.
- Support governance activities of various legal entities across the region with support from local (DHR or external) counsel where required.
- Partner with regional leadership to drive compliant business practices in the sales and marketing of medical devices and research products.
- Conduct compliance trainings in a variety of areas.
Qualifications and Skills: The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
- Legal, Business, or similar academic degree.
- At least 3-5 years of Compliance experience in a comparable role overseeing a variety of jurisdictions.
- Fluency in English and preferably fluency in other language(s) spoken in the APAC region.
- Experience in life science, medical device or related industries is a plus.
- Business minded. A positive, energetic, self-motivated personality, able to explain complex compliance points to business leaders with varying degrees of legal sophistication able to take business leaders concerns and demands into account in how best to pursue compliance strategies. Intelligent and articulate with excellent written and verbal communication skills nimble and quick-minded able and willing to engage in debate.
- Able to refuse to accept unethical conduct or outcomes that threaten the business.
- A team player that can command the respect of, and influence, business leaders and outside counsel across a wide spectrum of experience and sophistication. Able to work effectively with lower-level employees yet communicate with effectiveness and polish at the most senior levels.
- High integrity and ethics in all dealings - internal, external and personal non-political in conduct, while understanding internal and external dynamics.
- Humility and humor coupled with the highest professionalism for the company is necessary.
- Willingness to travel (30%) and to visit sites within the region on a regular base.
- This job location is flexible across LMS APAC footprint.
