Job Description
Building technicians assist with essential tasks around construction projects and building works. As a building technician, you could be overseeing a range of tasks, from monitoring build progress, to negotiating with suppliers, preparing site plans and estimating costs.
The main responsibility of a building technician is to assist in essential building tasks, such as estimating, contracts or site planning.
As a building technician, your duties could include:
- Estimating project costs ahead of bidding for new contracts
- Negotiating with suppliers on the cost of materials, equipment and labour
- Checking the quality of suppliers
- Helping to plan each construction stage
- Drafting plans and blueprints using CAD (computer aided design) software
- Monitoring build progress
- Preparing sites before construction work begins
- Supervising contractor teams
- Working on a construction site or in an office.
- Plan for new service roll-outs, expansion and capacity management o f existing services,
and work with users to optimise their resource consumption.
Strives for automation either b y coding it o r b y leading and influencing developers to build systems that are easy to run in production. Automating every operational task is a core req uirement for this role.
Measure the risk o f introduced features to plan ahead and improve the infrastructure. 1 3 . Proposes and drives architectural changes that affect the whole company to solve scaling and performance problems
Perform and run blameless RCAs o n incidents and outages aggressively lo oking for answers that will prevent the incident fro m ever happening again.
Identifies changes for the p roduct architecture from the reliability, performance and availability perspective with a data driven approach.
Actively looks for opportunities to improve the availability and performance o f the system b y applying the lea rnin gs from monitoring and observation
