Job Description
To provide a high standard of Patient care within designated areas of the Operation Theatre in accordance with clinical guidelines, policies, procedures and quality standards.
The Job Responsibilities of OT - Staff Nurse includes the following:
1.To deliver a professional and high standard of Operative care.
2.Ensure pre-operative checks are made on accepting the patient into the OT and prior to the administration of any anesthetics or surgical procedure along with the anesthetist doctor.
3.To ensure readiness if OT prior to the surgery.
4.Ensuring that surgical policies and procedures are adhered to in relation to operations and correct procedures are followed in the checking of swabs, instruments, needles etc.
5.To ensure that correct aseptic techniques are used at all times. Maintaining the cleanliness of entire OT Area as per Protocol.
6.To undertake responsibilities needed by the surgeon and take charge of a shift.
7.Correctly follow routine maintenance schedules and sterilization procedures for equipment.
8.Emergency patient care and assisting surgeon during surgeries.
9.Observing and monitoring patients in the post-operative room.
10.Maintain the inventory for all medical and surgical consumables of OT and update on daily basis.
11.Maintain the register for equipment's available in OT, drugs, consumables items.
12.Coordinate with Nursing In-charge in scheduling of operative procedures.
13.To accurately and promptly complete documentation relating to all Patient records.
14.Performs scrub duties as and when necessary.
15.Medication administration as per the treating doctors' advice.
16.New born care and lactation sessions.
17.Adhere to operating room dress code and neat & hygiene personal appearance.
18.Available for on-call emergency duties and additional duty.
19.Ensure OT always neat and tidy and ready for next use at any given time.
20.As staffing allows, utilize program of pre-and post-operative visits to facilitate knowledge of patient, condition, and needs.
21.Records used items in proper place and method directed.
22.Assists in supervision of personnel and department to provide optimum assurance of safe environment.
23.Checks rooms, material, and equipment for proper care and handling.
24.Ensures clean, safe environment through continued alertness to safety and explosive hazards and aseptic techniques.
25.Coordinates with supply department to maintain high standards and quality in the materials used.
26.To accurately and promptly complete documentation relating to all Patient records.
27.Immediately reports any unusual occurrences to charge personnel, documents appropriately in the patient record, and completes Hospital Incident Reports form if indicate.
28.Check equipment for their functional status and ensure all the items required for the surgery to follow whether it is ready including items for anesthesia, perfusion and for surgery - instruments, dressing materials and suture materials.
29.Any other assignment as per exigency of work by the management from time to time
30.Executes physician's orders for all assigned patients; safely and properly administers medications and treatments.
31.To be responsible for collection of specimens when required, ensuring correct labelling.
32.To be responsible for preparing assigned patients for programmed medical procedures.
33.To supervise the cleanliness of assigned area or the ward.
34.Carry out routine check at each handover that all equipments are in working order.
35.Competently, professionally, and consistently completes accurate, concise, and legible documentation of hospital records.
36.To check narcotics and controlled drugs, emergency trolley, portable oxygen each shift.
37.Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by Management.
