Position Overview

DNA Labs India is seeking motivated undergraduate and graduate students to join our comprehensive Genetic Counseling Internship Program. This immersive experience is designed to provide aspiring genetic counselors with hands-on exposure to clinical genetics, genomics, and the essential skills required for effective genetic counseling practice. Working under the direct supervision of certified genetic counselors and medical geneticists, interns will gain valuable experience in both clinical and research environments.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Support Activities

• Assist with case preparation for upcoming patient appointments and genetic counseling sessions
• Conduct pre-clinic telephone calls to obtain comprehensive medical and family histories from patients
• Create and analyze pedigrees using standardized genetic symbols and documentation methods
• Support genetic test ordering processes and coordinate with laboratory services
• Provide results follow-up communications to patients and healthcare providers
• Maintain accurate patient records while ensuring compliance with healthcare privacy regulations

Research and Administrative Duties

• Participate in ongoing research projects including data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation
• Assist with literature reviews and evidence-based research initiatives
• Perform essential clerical duties including documentation, filing, and administrative support
• Attend and contribute to journal clubs and case discussion meetings
• Support quality improvement initiatives within the genetic counseling department

Learning and Development

• Shadow experienced genetic counselors during patient consultations across multiple specialties
• Observe real-time genetic counseling sessions to understand patient interaction dynamics
• Participate in mock counseling sessions to practice essential communication skills
• Attend educational seminars on genetic conditions, testing technologies, and counseling techniques

Required Qualifications

Educational Background

• Bachelor's degree in health sciences, psychology, biology, genetics, or related field
• Currently enrolled undergraduate students in relevant programs will be considered
• Completion of college-level genetics course is required
