Role & responsibilities

A DM (Doctor of Medicine) pulmonologist specializes in diagnosing and treating respiratory and pulmonary disorders. Here are the key roles and responsibilities:

1. Patient Evaluation: Conduct thorough assessments of patients with respiratory issues, including reviewing medical histories and performing physical examinations.
2. Diagnosis: Use diagnostic tools like chest X-rays, CT scans, pulmonary function tests, and bronchoscopy to identify conditions such as asthma, COPD, pneumonia, and lung cancer.
3. Treatment Planning: Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnoses, which may include medications, therapies, or lifestyle changes.
4. Management of Chronic Conditions: Monitor and manage chronic respiratory diseases, ensuring patients adhere to treatment regimens and adjust plans as necessary.
5. Patient Education: Educate patients and families about respiratory diseases, treatment options, and self-management strategies.
6. Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as primary care physicians, respiratory therapists, and oncologists, to provide comprehensive care.
7. Research and Education: Engage in research to stay updated on advances in pulmonary medicine and may also teach medical students and residents.
8. Emergency Care: Respond to acute respiratory distress situations, providing immediate interventions as needed.
