The Economists Digital Solutions (DS) team is a passionate group of digital professionals who deliver a myriad of digital products, serving both our readers and The Economist's businesses. The DS team has a strong cross-functional mix of skills, from product managers to data scientists, collaborating on Agile teams developing products, platforms and concepts. Each person plays a pivotal role in delivering innovation and growth.
We are looking for a Tech Lead for building the website and our subscription fulfillment engine for our chinese offering The Economist Global Business Review. As part of the journey you will be working along with the Product Owner & other stakeholders in proving the roadmap and building the strategy.
How you will contribute:
- Building scalable, highly available, resilient, extendable, secured architecture to provide a significant boost to the business
- Writing high quality code to achieve business goals.
- Assuring the correct procedures and practices are adhered to (e.g. source management)
- Working with various cross-functional teams to understand their needs, offering them solutions and setting and managing their expectations
- Ensuring timely & high quality delivery
- Leading and mentoring technical staff
- Troubleshooting across the stack
- Defining and reviewing software : API, algorithm and/or class level of granularity
- Participation in steering and planning sessions
- Industry point of view for development strategy including framework, tools and libraries decisions
- The SDLC including providing builds to all UAT Stakeholders e.g. advertising and data analytics
- Defining and reviewing software : API, algorithm and/or class level of granularity
The ideal skills for this role are:
- Experience in React/React-Native, Angular & Cloud technologies
- Strong Javascript fundamentals
- Capability to analyze other popular JS frameworks like Vue, Polymer, ReactJS
- Understand frontend applications performance aspects and be able to understand and improve the backend
- Extensive knowledge of modern software development practices (including QA)
- To have developed and released a number of mobile apps into either enterprise or commercial stores
- Complete understanding of data and content flows through CMS and CDN systems
- Leading code reviews and steer technical design debates
- Industry insight in technical product direction (e.g. technology to support Apple News and Semantic linking)
- You are capable of working across multiple time-zones and cultures
- Good working knowledge of agile development practices including CI/CD
-Extensive exposure to agile and lean project management practices
- Good working experience of git, git flow management and Github (including defect tracing)
- Leading code reviews and steer technical design debates
- Industry insight in technical product direction (e.g. technology to support Apple News and Semantic linking)
- Ability to contribute to or create new processes, policies and procedures e.g. branch management
- Experience and understanding of creating complex Analytics Visualization applications using libraries
- Deep understanding of technologies and architecture for a scalable and highly available set-up
- Experience in developing the long-term tech strategy
