Job Description
- As an Engineering professional at Cummins Inc., your primary responsibilities will involve investigating product, system, and/or technology issues related to thermal and fluid sciences. You will be expected to understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate actions, own the problem resolution process, and document the outcomes under the guidance of experienced team members. Additionally, you will be required to apply and support the improvement of various processes such as Pre Program Planning (PPP), Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI), or Value Package Change (VPC), Engineering Standard Work (ESW), Functional Excellence Practice (FEP), and tools related to thermal and fluid sciences. In this role, you will collaborate with immediate stakeholders, including team members, technical managers, project leaders, other Thermal Sciences engineers, product and manufacturing engineers, and supplier partners. Your decision-making responsibilities will encompass various project details, such as conducting analysis, testing, and communicating with stakeholders to ensure the successful progression of projects. As you gain experience, you will be tasked with owning the resolution of moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems, or services, dealing with increasing technical complexity and ambiguity. To qualify for this position, you must hold a College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a relevant STEM field. A post-graduate (Master's) degree may be required for certain roles, and licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations might also be necessary. In addition to your educational background, you will be expected to demonstrate competencies in areas such as Principles of Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics and Energy Conversion Systems, Product Failure Mode Avoidance, Product Function Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis, among others. Your collaborative skills, effective communication, decision-making abilities, and drive for achieving results will be crucial for success in this role. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in Python, Matlab, Power BI, Power Apps, R Programming, and MySQL. Exposure to Machine Learning, Data Science, Generative AI, and Automobile Engineering, as well as a basic understanding of Turbocharging for Diesel Engines, will be advantageous. This position is suitable for an entry-level or early-career professional with relevant experience, either through temporary student employment (internship, co-op, or extracurricular activities) or as an early career professional in a technical discipline area. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred for this role.
