Job Description
Role Overview
The Mechanical Head will lead the mechanical engineering, design, and product development function for the India automotive business. The role will focus on driving innovation in vehicle systems, components, and technologies, ensuring cost competitiveness, quality, and compliance with global standards. The Mechanical Head will also play a key role in new product development, localization, and technology advancement to support business growth in India.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical engineering strategy for India in alignment with global product and business objectives.
- Oversee the design, development, validation, and integration of mechanical systems, aggregates, and components (powertrain, chassis, body, interiors, thermal, etc.).
- Drive localization and cost optimization initiatives while maintaining quality and performance standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team.
- Foster innovation in EV systems, lightweight materials, and sustainable mobility solutions.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and emission norms in India.
- Build and mentor a strong team of mechanical engineers and specialists.
- Represent Indias mechanical engineering capability in global forums and collaborate with international engineering teams.
- Manage partnerships with suppliers, academia, and technology providers to strengthen mechanical competency.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong expertise in mechanical design, development, validation, and manufacturing within the automotive domain.
- Proven experience in powertrain, chassis, body, and/or EV mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of Industry 4.0 practices, CAD/CAE tools, simulation, and testing methodologies.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strategic mindset with focus on innovation, quality, and cost competitiveness.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors / master's degree in mechanical/automotive engineering.
- 15+ years of experience in mechanical engineering leadership roles (Min. 5 years) within the automotive sector.
- Hands-on experience in new product development, localization, and large-scale automotive programs.
