Job Description

Job Summary:

The Factory Accountant is responsible for managing the complete factory accounting function in the Sesame Factories located in Africa. The role focuses on costing, cost control, inventory management, variance analysis, budgeting, and financial reporting. The Factory Accountant plays a critical role in providing accurate cost information, driving cost efficiencies, and supporting the management team with actionable financial insights to improve profitability and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Costing and Cost Analysis

  • Analyse production costs including raw materials, labour, equipment usage, and overhead expenses.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses to identify and recommend cost-saving opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain standard costing for all sesame products and production processes.
  • Monitor actual production costs and compare them to standard costs, investigating variances and providing detailed explanations.

2. Inventory Management

  • Oversee inventory valuation and ensure accurate stock reporting.
  • Perform regular inventory reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Monitor stock movement and consumption to ensure appropriate costing and minimize losses.
  • Maintain tight controls over raw materials and finished goods inventory.

3. Variance Analysis

  • Analyse variances related to material usage, labour efficiency, and overhead absorption.
  • Provide timely variance reports to management with recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with production and procurement teams to address cost inefficiencies.

4. Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Support the preparation of factory budgets and production cost forecasts.
  • Track actual factory performance against budgets and provide variance analysis with clear explanations.
  • Assist in planning future production costs based on historical trends and expected changes.

5. Cost Reporting and Financial Support

  • Prepare accurate and timely cost reports, including cost of goods sold (COGS) and profitability reports.
  • Present cost-related findings to factory and finance management to support operational decision-making.
  • Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of all accounting records in line with company policies and applicable accounting standards.

6. Process Improvement and Compliance

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and control costs.
  • Work closely with the production and finance teams to implement cost control initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, accounting policies, and relevant compliance standards.

Qualifications:

  • Education: B.Com / M.Com / MBA / ICWAI / CA or equivalent.
  • Professional Certification: ACA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in factory accounting and costing roles within a manufacturing setup is required
  • Strong hands-on expertise in cost accounting, inventory management, variance analysis, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with IFRS, GAAP, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with production and finance teams.
