Role Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Engineer / Lead Developer to lead our e-commerce development initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in the Shopify ecosystem, full-stack development capabilities, and a proven track record of leading projects from conception to launch. You will be responsible for architecting technical solutions, mentoring developers, and ensuring the delivery of robust, high-quality code that meets our clients' complex business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Strategy:
- Lead the technical direction for multiple Shopify Plus projects, evaluating and adopting new technologies to enhance development processes and product capabilities.
- Create and enforce development standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure code quality and system maintainability.
- Guide technical decision-making processes, including architecture reviews and technology selection.
- Development & Execution:
- Develop custom, scalable Shopify themes from scratch using Liquid, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and React/Next.js.
- Build and integrate complex backend functionalities using Node.js, Express.js, PHP or any of server side language.
- Engineer custom solutions to overcome platform limitations.
- Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and third-party services (Klaviyo, Recharge, Stay AI, etc.).
- Project Management & Collaboration:
- Collaborate directly with stakeholders, designers, and project managers to define business requirements and translate them into actionable technical tasks.
- Review project plans, manage timelines, and coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure on-time delivery.
- Lead the integration of third-party services and APIs, ensuring seamless functionality and interoperability.
- Team Mentorship & Growth:
- Mentor junior and mid-level developers, providing guidance on technical challenges and promoting professional growth.
- Conduct thorough code reviews and pair programming sessions to maintain high code quality and share knowledge.
- Assist in the recruitment process, including conducting technical interviews and onboarding new team members.
- Performance & Optimization:
- Optimize application performance through debugging, refactoring, and implementing best practices.
- Oversee the deployment of web applications from development to production environments (AWS, Firebase).
Qualifications & Required Skills
- Experience: 6+ years of experience in web development, with at least 4+ years specializing in the Shopify ecosystem (Shopify Plus experience is a must).
- Technical Skills:
- Expert in Shopify theme development: Liquid, Theme Customizer, Metaobjects, Metafields.
- Expert in front-end technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), jQuery.
- Strong experience with modern JS frameworks: React, Redux Toolkit, Next.js, or Remix.js.
- Strong back-end proficiency: Node.js, Express.js, and/or PHP.
- Experience with database management: MySQL or MongoDB.
- Proven experience building and integrating with APIs (REST, GraphQL) and webhooks.
- Experience with cloud services (AWS Lambda, S3, EC2) and serverless functions.
- Proficient with version control (Git).
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent leadership, communication, and client-facing skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a strategic approach to challenges.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced agency environment.
- A passion for mentoring others and elevating team performance.
