Job Summary
The Field Hardware Engineer is responsible for providing on-site technical support, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting for IT hardware and networking components. This includes desktop computers, dot matrix printers, CCTV systems, and structured network cabling (dressing). The role requires frequent field visits, strong diagnostic skills, and a commitment to ensuring minimal downtime and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform installation, configuration, and maintenance of desktop systems, peripherals, and printers (including dot matrix).
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance of hardware equipment to ensure smooth functioning.
- Troubleshoot hardware and network issues on-site and coordinate with higher-level support teams if needed.
- Handle LAN network dressing, patch panel management, and basic switch/router connectivity.
- Install, monitor, and maintain CCTV systems (DVR/NVR), including camera alignment, recording verification, and network integration.
- Ensure proper documentation of service calls, parts replaced, and maintenance reports.
- Maintain inventory of spare parts, tools, and consumables.
- Provide end-user support for system-related issues and escalate unresolved problems to Level 2 support.
- Adhere to company IT policies, data security practices, and service-level timelines.
- Conduct regular preventive checks to reduce recurring issues.
- Coordinate with vendors for warranty, AMC, or replacement of faulty devices.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of computer hardware, printers, and peripherals.
- Working understanding of Windows OS installation, drivers, and updates.
- Experience with dot matrix printer configuration and servicing.
- Basic understanding of networking (LAN, IP addressing, cabling).
- Hands-on experience with CCTV systems (DVR/NVR setup, IP camera configuration).
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Good communication and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple field tasks.
Qualifications
- Diploma / Bachelors degree in Computer Science / IT / Electronics (preferred).
- 1 - 3 years of field support experience in hardware maintenance.
- Certification in hardware/networking (e.g., CompTIA A+, CCNA basics) will be an advantage.
- Valid two-wheeler license (if field travel is required).
