Role Overview

As a Senior Power BI Developer at Tredence, you will work with cross-functional teams spanning data engineering, analytics, domain (e.g., Retail, CPG, TMT, Healthcare) to design, develop and deliver interactive dashboards and reporting solutions leveraging Microsoft Power BI. You will translate business requirements into visualizations, support self-service analytics adoption, ensure performance, scalability and maintainability of BI assets, and contribute to best practices, governance and architecture of BI within our solutions framework.

You will be part of projects where Tredence helps clients modernise data platforms, migrate legacy BI stacks, implement self-service and visualisation capabilities. Tredence+1

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, data engineers, and analytics teams to understand reporting/analytics requirements and translate them into Power BI solutions (dashboards, reports, data models).
  • Design and build end-to-end Power BI artefacts: data modelling, DAX calculations, powerful visuals, drill-through, bookmarks, tooltips, performance optimisation.
  • Develop robust, scalable, maintainable data models in Power BI, optimised for large volumes and complex business logic.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency and reliability of the BI outputs; work with data engineering teams to ensure upstream data pipelines, data warehouses, and semantic layers feed into the reports appropriately.
  • Participate in migration / modernisation projects (for example migrating legacy reporting tools to Power BI, rationalising reports, implementing self-service analytics). This aligns with Tredences data-engineering & BI modernisation capabilities. Tredence
  • Implement performance tuning of reports and dashboards (query optimisation, model optimisation, incremental load, caching, data reduction techniques).
  • Build and deliver analytics artefacts with a strong user experience, enable self-serve capabilities (power users/analysts) and documentation / training for business teams.
  • Support governance & best practices around Power BI: versioning, deployment pipelines, workspace management, security (RLS), certification of reports, lifecycle management.
  • Work closely with UX/UI designer(s) (if applicable) to ensure dashboards are intuitive, actionable and aligned with business KPIs.
  • Provide mentorship to junior/mid-level Power BI developers, help drive cadence of peer reviews, code/data-model reviews and promote reusable components/standards across the team.
  • Stay current on Power BI feature updates, visualization best practices, DAX optimisation techniques and share knowledge within the team and wider organisation.

Qualifications & Experience

Must-haves:

  • 6-9 years of experience as a BI Developer / Data Visualisation Developer who has used Microsoft Power BI as a primary tool.
  • Strong hands-on in Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, dataset design, data modelling, DAX, M (Power Query) and visualisations.
  • Experience in building enterprise-grade dashboards and reports, working with large datasets, complex data models and performance optimisation.
  • Good understanding of underlying data warehousing concepts (star schema, snowflake, slowly changing dimensions), ETL/ELT flows and able to collaborate with data engineering teams.
  • Prior experience in migrating or modernising BI/reporting solutions to Power BI or introducing self-service analytics frameworks.
  • Strong business acumen: able to work with stakeholders to define KPIs, metrics, visualisation needs, and translate into BI artefacts.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal + written), comfortable presenting dashboards to business users (including senior management).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams, adapt to fast-paced analytics projects, and deliver quality solutions on time.
  • Experience with Power BI governance: workspaces, security (Row-Level Security), versioning, deployment pipelines (ALM), and best practices.
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in a quantitative discipline (Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Analytics) or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical mindset, problem-solving ability and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Prior experience in large service-based environments or analytics consulting firms (preferred).Role & responsibilities
