Job Summary
The Hospital Civil Engineer is responsible for the design, maintenance, and supervision of all civil and structural aspects of the hospital infrastructure. This includes managing construction, renovation, and repair projects to ensure that the hospitals buildings, utilities, and external facilities meet safety, functionality, and healthcare standards. The role ensures all civil works are carried out in compliance with local building codes, safety standards, and hospital regulatory requirements (e.g., NABH, JCI).
Key Responsibilities
1. Infrastructure Maintenance & Supervision
- Inspect, monitor, and maintain hospital buildings, structures, and civil works such as walls, flooring, roofs, drainage, and roads.
- Plan and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of civil infrastructure to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns or structural issues and coordinate necessary repairs.
2. Construction & Renovation Projects
- Plan, estimate, and supervise civil construction, expansion, and renovation projects within the hospital premises.
- Prepare detailed project drawings, BOQs (Bills of Quantities), and technical specifications.
- Coordinate with architects, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure timely and quality completion of projects.
- Review and approve materials, ensuring compliance with hospital standards and durability requirements.
3. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all civil works comply with statutory requirements, hospital safety protocols, and infection control norms.
- Adhere to NABH, JCI, and local municipal guidelines for healthcare facilities.
- Conduct periodic safety inspections of hospital premises and support fire safety and emergency preparedness initiatives.
4. Budgeting & Cost Control
- Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and schedules for construction and maintenance projects.
- Manage contractors and vendors to ensure cost-effective and timely project delivery.
- Evaluate and certify contractor bills and project progress reports.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate documentation of drawings, blueprints, maintenance logs, and project records.
- Prepare regular progress and inspection reports for management review.
- Keep an updated record of all statutory approvals and completion certificates.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering (B.E. / B.Tech).
Experience:
- Minimum 510 years of experience in civil engineering, preferably within a hospital, healthcare facility, or institutional infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience in building maintenance, construction supervision, and civil project execution.
Certifications (Preferred):
- NABH / JCI awareness training.
- Safety or quality certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, ISO 9001, ISO 14001).
Key Skills
- Strong knowledge of building materials, civil design, and construction methodologies.
- Familiarity with hospital infrastructure requirements (e.g., OT construction standards, drainage, waterproofing, etc.).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Project, or similar tools.
- Project management and vendor coordination skills.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Knowledge of safety, infection control, and waste management standards.
