Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Copy Editor (proficient in basic-to-advanced
level of editing fiction/nonfiction titles) to join our team, specializing in the editing of STEM & non-STEM
books (genre: novels, novellas, long-form books, children's, poetry, memoirs, religious, etc.). The
ideal candidate will possess exceptional editing skills, comprehensive grammatical knowledge, and a sharp eye for detail. They will provide stylistic editing looking at high-level structural, organizational, and content concerns, and make suggestions for improving tone and organization. They will also review and refine manuscripts to ensure clarity, coherence, and adherence to industry standards while meeting project deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Strong writing and editing skills: Ability to identify areas for improvement in writing and
make effective edits.
2. Attention to detail: Carefully reviewing each line of text for errors and inconsistencies.
3. Understanding of grammar, punctuation, and style: Knowledge of grammatical and stylistic
rules to make accurate edits.
4. Critical thinking: Ability to analyze text and identify areas for improvement.
5. Communication skills: Ability to communicate feedback to the author clearly and
constructively.
6. Adhering to timelines: Proven ability to work efficiently under pressure while meeting tight
deadlines.
7. Style guides: Familiarity with major style guides (APA, MLA, Chicago Manual of Style, 18th
Edition) and reference works.
8. Proficient in MS Office and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
Experience:
1. Minimum of 2-10 years of professional experience in line editing, copyediting, and
proofreading preferably within the general and trade book publishing sector.
2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage collaboratively
with authors and team members.
3. Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong time management and analytical
capabilities.
Educational Qualifications:
1. Graduate or post-graduate degree, preferably in Humanities or a related field
