Job Description

Job Title: Finance Controller Agri Commodities (Expat Role | Nigeria)

Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Employment Type: Full-Time | Family-Status Expat Assignment

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Finance Controller to lead financial governance, reporting, costing, treasury, compliance, and operational finance for our agri-commodities business in Nigeria. The role closely partners with procurement, sales, operations, warehousing, and logistics teams to drive profitability, financial discipline, transparency, and business performance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting & Controls

  • Prepare daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual MIS and management accounts.
  • Lead month-end closing activities including bank, debtor, creditor, and stock reconciliations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial statements as per internal and statutory requirements.
  • Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.

2. Costing, Margins & Profitability

  • Analyse procurement costs, landed costs, and cost structures across commodities.
  • Support pricing decisions and margin strategy for trading & processing.
  • Reconcile cost accounts with financial accounts.
  • Conduct contribution analysis and scenario modelling for business decisions.

3. Treasury, Cashflow & FX Management

  • Manage liquidity, banking relationships, credit facilities, and working capital cycles.
  • Prepare rolling cashflow forecasts and weekly/monthly cash planning.
  • Supervise receivables, payables, and credit control processes.
  • Manage FX exposure, hedging strategies, and currency risk mitigation.

4. Statutory Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure compliance with FIRS and state/local tax authorities.
  • Lead statutory audits, internal audits, and annual returns.
  • Strengthen internal controls, financial governance, and policy adherence.

5. Inventory & Operations Finance

  • Oversee stock valuation for RM/PM/WIP/FG.
  • Conduct physical stock counts and reconcile variances.
  • Analyze supply chain, warehousing, and logistics costs.
  • Build better visibility into procurement-to-sale cost drivers.

6. Business Partnering & Leadership

  • Work closely with procurement, sales, operations & logistics teams.
  • Present actionable insights and financial recommendations to management.
  • Drive process improvements, cost optimization, and performance discipline.
  • Mentor, train, and uplift finance team capabilities.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications & Experience

  • CA / ACCA / CPA (mandatory).
  • 810 years of experience in agri-commodities, commodity trading, food/agro processing, or export/import.
  • Prior exposure to Africa or frontier markets is preferred.
  • ERP knowledge: Tally, Navision, Pastel or similar systems.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of commodity pricing, landed cost structures, and margin analytics.
  • Expertise in treasury, cashflow planning, banking, credit control & FX management.
  • Solid grounding in audit, compliance, taxation, and internal controls.
  • Advanced Excel, MIS reporting, and financial modelling.

Behavioural Skills

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to simplify financial concepts for non-finance teams.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and solution-driven mindset.
  • Good stakeholder management and team leadership ability.
