Job Description

Role & responsibilities

Responsible for executing AWS-managed database optimization tasks focusing on performance and cost efficiency. Works under the Cloud Lead to optimize RDS, Aurora, and DynamoDB configurations for better utilization and reduced spend.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform RDS and Aurora instance right-sizing and storage optimization based on utilization metrics.
• Review and modify DB parameter groups to enhance performance and reduce costs.
• Optimize snapshot schedules, backup retention, and storage tiers.
• Identify opportunities for multi-AZ, IOPS, and connection pooling efficiency.
• Collaborate with application and infra engineers to validate performance impact.
• Automate recurring DB optimization tasks using Python/Bash scripts.

Must Have Skills

• Strong knowledge of RDS, Aurora, and DynamoDB cost/performance configurations.
• Experience with DB parameter tuning, indexing strategy review, and connection optimization.
• Proficiency in AWS CloudWatch metrics for database performance monitoring.
• Automation using Python or Shell scripts for snapshot, backup, and cleanup tasks.

Should Have Skills

• Knowledge of AWS Database Migration Service (DMS).
• Experience with cost governance and lifecycle policies for backups and snapshots.

Understanding of FinOps principles in DB resource optimization.
