Job Description
1. Clinical Assessment & Management
- Perform comprehensive assessment of infants, children, and adolescents presenting with acute or chronic conditions.
- Lead initial stabilisation of unwell children, especially in A&E, paediatric admissions units, and wards.
- Develop and implement management plans, reviewing progress regularly.
- Prioritise and triage patients based on clinical urgency.
2. Emergency & Acute Care
- Act as the senior decision-maker on the floor, especially out of hours.
- Manage paediatric emergencies (e.g., seizures, respiratory distress, sepsis, trauma).
- Lead resuscitation following APLS guidelines.
- Liaise with NICU teams when escalation is needed.
3. Ward & Inpatient Responsibilities
- Conduct ward rounds - often leading them out of hours or in the consultants absence.
- Review new admissions, write treatment plans, and update families.
- Monitor high-risk patients, organise investigations, and adjust treatments.
- Coordinate discharges and ensure safety-netting advice is given.
4. Outpatient Clinics
- Assist for outreach Clinics and Camps
- Review follow-up patients and create management plans under consultant supervision.
- Communicate with GPs and community teams regarding ongoing care.
5. Neonatal Responsibilities
- Attend neonatal emergencies: preterm birth, resuscitation, unwell newborns.
- Carry out specialist neonatal procedures (e.g., umbilical lines, lumbar puncture, intubation depending on competence).
- Participate in SCBU/NICU ward rounds and manage preterm and sick term infants.
6. Communication & Family Support
- Provide clear explanations to parents and carers, often in stressful situations.
- Break bad news with compassion and professionalism.
- Work with interpreters and multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) to support families.
7. Multidisciplinary Team Working
- Collaborate with nurses, physiotherapists, dietitians, safeguarding teams, community paediatrics, and others.
- Participate in MDT meetings and care-planning discussions.
- Ensure smooth handovers between teams.
8. Safeguarding & Child Protection
- Recognise and escalate concerns regarding neglect, abuse, or developmental issues.
- Document carefully and liaise with safeguarding nurses/social care as needed.
- Attend child protection medicals or case conferences when appropriate.
9. Procedures
- Cannulation, venepuncture
- Lumbar puncture
- NG/NJ tube placement
- Intubation (in neonatal/paediatric settings)
- Umbilical line insertion
- Joint aspiration or abscess drainage
10. Administrative & Documentation Duties
- Maintain high-quality clinical notes, discharge summaries, and referral letters.
- Ensure investigations are followed up.
- Participate in audits and service improvement tasks.
11. Education, Research & Quality Improvement
- Teach Nursing, Para Staff and Junior Doctors on necessary.
- Participate in audits, QI projects, and clinical governance.
- Keep up with complete workplace-based assessments.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Should possess MBBS + MD / DNB - Paediatrics degree recognized by Medical Council of India.
- Candidate should remain flexible to work in rotational shifts.
- Candidates / Aspirants ready to work at /relocate to Mysore on their own can also apply.
