Senior Cloud Engineer ESS Ascend Platform
About the Role
The Senior Cloud Engineer will be part of the ESS Ascend Platform team, which owns the cloud infrastructure and observability stack for the Experian Software Solutions (ESS) division. The team focuses on building robust platform services, automating infrastructure, and continuously improving how ESS products are built, monitored, secured, and run in the cloud.
You will use your expertise in coding, cloud architecture, and system design to provide reliable, secure, and costeffective cloud platform capabilities for product development teams. This role is handson and highly collaborative, working closely with application teams to design, implement, and operate scalable cloud solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain cloud platforms, systems, and infrastructure using strong coding and automation skills.
- Work closely with product development teams to design and implement reliable, secure, and costefficient cloud solutions on AWS.
- Contribute to the establishment and evolution of a cloud operational governance framework across departments and functions.
- Implement and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform to automate provisioning and deployment processes.
- Architect and operate containerized workloads using Kubernetes/EKS and ECS, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
- Configure and manage AWS services including IAM, EC2, Lambda, EKS, ECS, networking, and security controls.
- Implement cloud security best practices, including IAM policies, VPC configuration, encryption, and monitoring solutions to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
- Collaborate with developers, application architects, and engineering managers to design cloud-native solutions and align on technical design decisions.
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and platform issues, guiding the team through resolution of challenging technical problems.
- Support product teams with platform-related service requests and operational tasks as needed.
- Contribute to observability initiatives, helping to provide tools and platforms for logs, metrics, and traces.
MustHave Qualifications & Skills
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 35+ years focused on cloud engineering.
- Strong expertise in Linux, security, networking, containerization, and cloud design patterns.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform.
- Extensive handson experience with AWS services, including IAM, EC2, Lambda, EKS, ECS, networking, security, CI/CD, and configuration management tools.
- Deep understanding of container orchestration fundamentals and architecture (e.g., Kubernetes, EKS).
- Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language such as Shell or Python.
- Strong background in implementing cloud security best practices and ensuring compliance (IAM policies, VPC settings, encryption, monitoring).
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with crossfunctional teams (developers, architects, engineering managers) to design and implement solutions.
- Ability to guide teams through complex infrastructure challenges and provide technical leadership.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills, high attention to detail, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
