Job Description: GCP Cloud Operations Engineer (GKE Focus)
This role centers on GCP Cloud Operations with hands-on GKE management, ensuring platform reliability, observability, and automation across landing zones. It emphasizes operational excellence through Operations Suite, SRE practices, and Terraform IaC for enterprise-scale environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage GKE operations: Deploy and maintain Autopilot/Standard clusters with VPC-native networking, Workload Identity, node auto-scaling, and multi-dimensional Pod Autoscaler.
- Drive Cloud Operations: Configure Logging sinks, Trace sampling, Monitoring SLIs/SLOs, alerting policies, and dashboards for GKE workloads, VPC traffic, and IAM activities.
- Automate operations with Terraform: Provision landing zone components (Shared VPC, GKE, IAM bindings), implement GitOps (ArgoCD), and CI/CD via Cloud Build for reliable deployments.
Required Skills and Experience
GKE Operations | Private clusters, CNI (Calico), upgrades, PDBs, HPA/VPA, backup/recovery with Velero.
Cloud Operations | Operations Suite mastery (Logging/Monitoring/Trace), log routing, metric queries, Uptime Checks.
SRE & DevOps | SLO definition, error budgets, toil reduction, incident response, Terraform modules for ops.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years GCP operations; AWS-to-GCP transitions (EKSGKE, CloudWatchOperations).
- Advanced networking (VPC firewall logs, Service Mesh), IAM ops (service accounts, policy analyzer), FinOps practices.
- Mentoring on GKE reliability, chaos engineering, and multi-cloud ops strategies.
