Role Overview
As a UX / UI Engineer Specialist, you translate user insights into intuitive interaction concepts and robust, production-ready user interfaces for Vanderlandes digital products. You work closely with UX Architects, Product Owners, Developers, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure that UX vision, usability principles, and technical feasibility are consistently realized in high-quality UI implementations.
This role requires deep hands-on expertise across UX design and UI development, with a strong focus on implementation, performance, and maintainability in complex, data-intensive and operational systems.
Responsibilities
UX & Interaction Design
You identify and understand user needs, workflows, and operational context relevant to your product(s), and based on the UX vision, UX architecture, and user understanding, you create interaction design concepts, wireframes, and application prototypes illustrating key product interactions. You conduct and support user research and usability testing to validate design decisions, test design concepts and developed applications to improve usability and reduce risks, iterate on designs based on user feedback, analytics, and testing results, and document UX research and testing insights while clearly communicating findings to stakeholders. You actively contribute to strengthening UX and usability awareness within the organization.
UI Development & Engineering
You translate UX concepts and UI designs into production-ready user interfaces and actively contribute through hands-on UI development. You design and implement reusable, scalable UI components, write clean and maintainable frontend code, and collaborate closely with developers to ensure accurate implementation of UX intent. You align UX concepts early with technical constraints, integrate UI components with backend and system APIs, support real-time and data-intensive visualizations, and contribute to UI patterns, standards, and design systems. You also support quality assurance by reviewing UI implementations for usability, performance, and consistency.
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelors or masters degree in computer science or information technology
- 10+ years of overall experience in UX and UI-related roles
- 3+ years of hands-on experience as a UI Designer / UI Developer, supported by a strong portfolio
- Proven experience designing and implementing complex, data-heavy user interfaces
- Hands-on experience in logistics process automation, intralogistics, or industrial automation
- Experience working in cross-functional and international product teams
Required Skills
UX & Design
Strong expertise in interaction design, information hierarchy, state-based UI design, and UI design principles including typography, color theory, and layout, combined with a solid understanding of responsive design and accessibility standards. Proven experience with user research, usability testing, wireframing, prototyping, and iterative, feedback-driven design processes using tools such as Figma and Sketch.
UI Development
Hands-on experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern frontend frameworks such as Angular. Strong understanding of component-based architectures, state management, and frontend performance considerations, with the ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code and collaborate effectively with backend and system engineers.
Collaboration
Ability to clearly articulate design and technical decisions to engineers, architects, and product owners, comfortable working in cross-functional agile teams, with strong presentation and communication skills, attention to detail, and a Design Thinking mindset.
Nice to Have
- Experience with industrial, logistics, or automation software systems
- Exposure to real-time, operator-facing, or safety-critical applications
- Familiarity with design systems and frontend frameworks at platform level
- Accessibility standards for operational environments
- Experience with Agile / SAFe ways of working
- Knowledge of Domain-Driven Design concepts
