Job Description

We are seeking a Microsoft 365 Digital Skills Trainer with strong experience in Higher or Further Education environments to deliver practical, application-focused training to staff, students, and researchers.


This role is ideal for professionals who have hands-on experience training users on Microsoft 365 applications, research tools, and digital productivity platforms, and who can translate complex technical concepts into accessible learning experiences.


This is not a corporate L&D or generic instructional design role. We are specifically looking for a Microsoft 365 subject matter expert with training delivery experience in an academic setting.

Key Responsibilities:


Microsoft 365 Training & Support

  • Deliver hands-on training(ILT, vILT, workshops, one-to-one) on:
    • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
    • Microsoft Teams & SharePoint Online
    • OneDrive, Planner
    • Microsoft Copilot (where applicable)
  • Support staff and researchers in adopting Microsoft 365 tools effectively for teaching, collaboration, research, and administration.
  • Develop practical use-casebased training tailored to academic workflows.

Digital Skills Development (Academic Context)

  • Identify digital skills gaps across faculties and departments.
  • Design and deliver training for students and postgraduate researchers to support:
    • Study and research productivity
    • Digital collaboration
    • Academic data handling and reporting
  • Provide guidance on research and analytical tools such as:
    • SPSS
    • NVivo
    • Power BI (desirable)

Content Creation & VLE Management

  • Develop accessible digital learning materials (written guides, videos, screencasts).
  • Create and maintain content within the Universitys Virtual Learning Environment (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard, or equivalent).
  • Ensure all content aligns with accessibility standards (WCAG).

Governance, Reporting & Compliance

  • Act as lead for externally validated qualifications (e.g., BCS) where required.
  • Maintain accurate records of training attendance, outcomes, and feedback.
  • Generate reports and analytics to measure impact and engagement.
  • Ensure training materials remain current with system updates and CLS software changes.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with academic staff, IT teams, and library services to coordinate training delivery.
  • Represent the Digital Skills Team at university engagement events.
  • Contribute to digital transformation initiatives across the institution.

Essential Experience

  • 5+ years of experience delivering Microsoft 365 training (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook).
  • Experience training users in a Higher or Further Education environment.
  • Experience onboarding users to enterprise-level systems.
  • Strong workshop facilitation skills (group, one-to-one, online & in-person).
  • Experience creating accessible digital learning resources (guides, videos, tutorials).

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with research software (SPSS, NVivo, Power BI).
  • Knowledge of Virtual Learning Environments (Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas).
  • Awareness of IT Service Management practices (ITIL).
  • Experience supporting digital literacy initiatives.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Copilot adoption training.

This Role Is Not Suitable For

  • Pure Instructional Designers without Microsoft 365 training experience.
  • Corporate soft-skills trainers.
  • L&D professionals without hands-on M365 expertise.
  • Candidates without Higher Education exposure.
