Job Description: Surgery / SDS Coder

Role Summary: Responsible for reviewing operative reports and clinical documentation to assign accurate CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for hospital outpatient and ASC settings.

Key Responsibilities:

Assign appropriate facility modifiers based on procedural completion and anesthesia timing.
Navigate NCCI edits daily to ensure compliant bundling/unbundling using appropriate modifiers.
Manage surgical claims across global periods to avoid duplicate billing.
Extract data from complex operative reports across all body systems (Integumentary to Nervous).
Perform internal audits on SDS procedures to ensure medical necessity and documentation integrity.

Required Skills & Knowledge

Strong understanding of CPT Surgery section structure and code ranges
Knowledge of global periods, bundling rules, and modifier usage
Ability to interpret detailed operative reports
Familiarity with outpatient hospital and ambulatory surgery center (ASC) coding
Attention to detail and strong analytical skills
Ability to work independently in a high-volume coding environment
