Job Description
? 1. Clinical Responsibilities? Patient CareDiagnose and evaluate patients with various malignancies.
Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical guidelines.
Prescribe and supervise:
Chemotherapy
Immunotherapy
Targeted therapy
Hormonal therapy
Manage treatment-related toxicities and complications.
Provide palliative and supportive care.
Conduct inpatient and outpatient oncology rounds.
Participate in Tumor Board / MDT meetings.
Coordinate care with:
Surgical oncology
Radiation oncology
Pathology
Radiology
Palliative care teams
Administer and monitor systemic therapy.
Perform bone marrow aspiration/biopsy (in some centers).
Interpret:
Imaging reports
Pathology reports
Molecular diagnostics
Manage oncologic emergencies (e.g., neutropenic sepsis, tumor lysis syndrome, spinal cord compression).
Participate in clinical research and trials.
Contribute to publications and case reports.
Present cases in departmental meetings.
Engage in CME (Continuing Medical Education) activities.
Assist in protocol development.
Train residents, fellows, and interns.
Conduct bedside teaching and academic sessions.
Supervise chemotherapy administration teams (with nursing staff).
Maintain proper medical documentation.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies.
Assist in quality improvement programs.
Help in accreditation processes (e.g., NABH/JCI where applicable).
Typically includes:
MD / DNB in Internal Medicine or equivalent.
DM / DrNB in Medical Oncology (or equivalent super-specialty training).
Medical council registration.
25 years of relevant experience (varies by institution).
Strong clinical decision-making skills.
Knowledge of evolving oncology protocols (NCCN/ESMO guidelines).
Communication skills for breaking bad news.
Empathy and patient-centered care.
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
Reports to: Senior Consultant / Head of Department (Medical Oncology).
Supervises: Residents, junior doctors, oncology nurses (clinical oversight).
