They will bring deep expertise in technology management, entrepreneurial experience, and a strong network of industry connections. The successful candidate will be driven by results, committed to excellence, and capable of fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the campus ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership & Business Development
    • Develop and execute the strategic vision for the establishment and growth of new companies within the campus.
    • Identify, evaluate, and capitalize on opportunities to create innovative products and services aligned with market needs and technological advancements.
    • Collaborate with academic departments, research centers, and industry partners to leverage university resources for business development.
    • Foster an entrepreneurial culture within the campus, encouraging innovation and the commercialization of research and technology.
  2. Revenue Generation & Financial Oversight
    • Lead the development of business models and revenue strategies for the newly established companies to ensure financial sustainability and growth.
    • Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation for the companies, ensuring alignment with revenue targets and profitability goals.
    • Identify and secure funding sources, including venture capital, government grants, and strategic partnerships, to support business growth.
  3. Technology Strategy & Innovation
    • Provide strategic direction on technology development, product innovation, and digital transformation for the companies under the CTOs leadership.
    • Stay abreast of emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, blockchain, and cybersecurity, integrating them into the business strategies where appropriate.
    • Ensure that all technological solutions meet industry standards and are scalable, secure, and user-friendly.
  4. Product Development & Lifecycle Management
    • Oversee the entire lifecycle of product development, from ideation and prototyping to market launch and continuous improvement.
    • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality products and services that meet market demands and customer expectations.
    • Implement processes for rapid development, testing, and iteration of new products.
  5. Team Leadership & Talent Development
    • Build and lead high-performing, multidisciplinary teams comprising engineers, developers, product managers, and business professionals.
    • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that promotes creativity, accountability, and professional growth.
    • Mentor and develop the next generation of technology leaders and entrepreneurs within the campus ecosystem.
  6. Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with industry leaders, investors, government agencies, and other stakeholders to drive business growth.
    • Represent KLH and its companies at industry conferences, investor meetings, and other high-profile events to enhance visibility and attract opportunities.
    • Collaborate with university leadership to align the business ventures with the broader institutional goals and mission.
  7. Operational Excellence & Risk Management
    • Ensure efficient and effective operations across all companies, optimizing processes, resources, and technology infrastructure.
    • Identify and mitigate potential risks related to technology, finance, and operations to safeguard business continuity and success.
    • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and ensure the achievement of business objectives.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A Masters or Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in technology management, entrepreneurship, or business development are preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 12+ years of progressive experience in technology leadership, with at least 5 years in senior executive roles such as CTO, VP of Technology, or similar.
  • Proven track record in launching, scaling, and managing successful startups or business ventures, preferably within a university or innovation-driven environment.
  • Extensive experience in revenue generation, business development, and strategic partnership management.
  • Strong background in emerging technologies and their application in commercial contexts.

  • Strong business acumen with expertise in financial management, market analysis, and competitive strategy.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills for engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute operationally, balancing long-term vision with short-term priorities.
  • Proficiency in product development methodologies, agile processes, and innovation management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex challenges with creativity and resilience.
