Oracle / Data Migration SME
Role Overview
The Oracle / Data Migration SME is a senior specialist responsible for providing deep expertise across legacy Oracle and Informatica estate. This role ensures that migration pathways, lineage understanding, schema structures, dependencies, and transformation logic are accurately captured to support the Discovery & Modernization Blueprint.
Primary Purpose To analyze and interpret BMJs Oracle database structures, Informatica workflows, PL/SQL logic, and lineage artefacts to ensure accurate discovery, complexity estimation, and mapping into the future GCP-native architecture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed analysis of Oracle schemas, tables, stored procedures, views, and PL/SQL logic across high-value business domains.
- Break down and interpret ~1,100 Informatica workflows (as applicable) to document source-to-target mappings, dependencies, transformations, and edge cases.
- Support the creation of the As-Is Inventory, contributing Oracle-specific lineage, reconciliation rules, and functional logic.
- Collaborate with Data Architect and Lead Data Engineer to define POC parity checks and validate transformation equivalence using synthetic data.
- Provide migration pathway recommendations from Oracle / Informatica into BigQuery and dbt models.
- Support technical complexity scoring for Migration Wave Planning by identifying critical dependencies, logic-heavy processes, and data quality constraints.
- Document business rules embedded in PL/SQL, Informatica mappings, or Oracle triggers to support transformation in DBT.
- Identify risks, data issues, and legacy platform constraints feeding into the Risk Mitigation Framework.
- Provide SME input into the Operating Model, Data Contract Template, and governance readiness by highlighting schema stability and KPI impacts.
- Ensure alignment with security and data-handling standards when analysing Oracle datasets for the illustrative POC (using synthetic data only).
Experience & Skills Required:-10+ years hands-on experience with Oracle databases, PL/SQL.
