Job Summary

The Coding Auditor / Coding Validation Specialist is responsible for reviewing and validating medical coding for accuracy, compliance, and adherence to regulatory and organizational standards. The role focuses on auditing surgical and procedural coding, identifying errors, educating coders, and improving overall coding quality and reimbursement integrity.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed audits of medical coding (inpatient, outpatient, and surgical cases) to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Validate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes against clinical documentation.
• Identify coding errors, trends, and root causes; recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with payer guidelines, CMS regulations, and organizational policies.
• Prepare audit reports with clear findings, recommendations, and error analysis.
• Provide feedback, coaching, and education to coding staff to improve quality and consistency.
• Support internal and external audits, including payer or compliance reviews.
• Maintain audit documentation and quality metrics as per established standards.
• Collaborate with coding, clinical, billing, and compliance teams to resolve discrepancies.
• Stay current with coding guidelines, annual updates, and industry best practices.

Certifications (Preferred)

• CPC, CCS, or equivalent medical coding certification
• Additional auditing or compliance certification is an advantage
