Job Description
Role Overview
We're looking for a Senior Android Developer to own features end-to-end from stakeholder alignment and architecture through implementation, testing, and release. You'll raise the technical bar through clean architecture, robust testing, and thoughtful code reviews, while collaborating closely across product, design, backend, and platform teams. Experience with .NET C# for Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) APIs is a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, test and ship Android features in Kotlin with a focus on reliability, performance, accessibility, and maintainability.
- Champion testing culture: author thorough unit and instrumented UI tests; maintain CI stability. Contribute to architectural decisions modularisation, dependency management, offline strategies, networking, and observability.
- Engage directly with stakeholders to clarify requirements, scope edge cases, and negotiate quality/speed/risk tradeoffs without relying on a team lead to intermediate.
- Partner with iOS and backend developers to triage production issues and drive incidents to resolution.
- Conduct code reviews, mentor teammates, and contribute to engineering standards. Where applicable, contribute to .NET C# BFF endpoints (payload shaping, pagination, caching, resilience).
Minimum Qualifications
- 6+ years building and shipping Kotlin Android apps to Google Play at scale. Proven ability to engage cross-functionally clarifying requirements, triaging production bugs, and understanding system interactions independently.
- Fluent with Android SDK, Jetpack Compose, XML UI, and the broader Android Jetpack suite. Strong testing discipline: manual tests unit tests, Instrumented UI tests, and a pyramid-based approach to coverage.
- Solid experience with Clean Architecture, MVVM/MVI, modularisation, feature toggles, and Gradle build optimisation. Hands-on with REST API integration: authentication, pagination, retries, and error handling.
- Mobile performance profiling and optimisation (startup time, jank, memory leaks) using Android Studio Profiler or Systrace.
- App security best practices: keystore, network security config, secure storage.
- Collaborative through GitHub Pull Requests, code review, and Agile estimation.
- Experience authoring and maintaining GitHub Workflows and Actions.
- Highly Desirable .NET C# experience building APIs or BFFs with .Net Core, including contract testing and observability. Infrastructure awareness: API gateways, CDN/caching strategy, rate
