Job Description

Role Summary Data Governance & Credit Risk -Data Analyst

Company (HSBC)


  • Location: Remote (India)
  • Travel Requirement: Onetime travel to Pune or Hyderabad for laptop pickup
  • Onboarding Cities: Bangalore / Pune / Hyderabad
  • Shift: General Shift

Core Purpose of the Role

  • Ensure accuracy, quality, governance, and regulatory compliance of customer and credit risk data.
  • Act as a Data Governance & Data Quality SME for customer data used in credit risk reporting.
  • Support largescale data remediation and cleanup (millions of records).
  • Help HSBC meet regulatory expectations such as BCBS 239, IRR, s166, and Customer Data regulations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Data Governance & Data Quality

  • Own and maintain Business Data Elements (BDEs).
  • Ensure correct definitions and linkage across upstream/downstream systems.
  • Track and remediate data quality issues (BAU and ageing items).
  • Work with Data Quality teams on KCIs and control frameworks.
  • Maintain accurate DQ and DG dashboards.

2. Credit Risk & Customer Data

  • Work handson with credit risk concepts:
    • PD, EAD, LGD
    • Limits, exposures, RWA, CRR
  • Understand how customer data impacts credit risk calculations.
  • Handle risk exceptions, breaches, and control failures.
  • Strong credit risk understanding is mandatory.

3. Regulatory & Control Programs

  • Support Integrated Regulatory Reporting (IRR).
  • Align with BCBS 239 data governance standards.
  • Support s166 / regulatory audits.
  • Maintain data lineage under trusted source frameworks.

4. LargeScale Data Analysis

  • Analyze datasets of 6M+ records.
  • Use SQL (mandatory) for data extraction and analysis.
  • Use Excel and BI tools (Qlik preferred).
  • SAS/Python is a plus, but role is not developerheavy.

5. Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work with:
    • ITSO teams
    • Global Finance
    • Regional stakeholders
    • Upstream & downstream system owners
  • Act as a bridge between Business, Risk, and Data teams.
  • Respond to regulatory and stakeholder queries quickly.

Team & Working Model

  • Reporting to Sharma KHVS.
  • Team size 2225, expected to grow.
  • Fungible model resources rotate across:
    • Controls
    • Exceptions
    • Breaches
    • CRR, AVC, data cleanup
  • No permanent silos.
  • High adaptability expected.

MustHave Skills (NonNegotiable)

  • Strong Credit Risk domain knowledge (PD, EAD, LGD, RWA, CRR).
  • Handson Data Governance & Data Quality experience.
  • SQL proficiency.
  • Understanding of BCBS 239, IRR, regulatory data frameworks.
  • Strong business + data mindset (not pure tech).

GoodtoHave Skills

  • Risk management systems exposure.
  • BI tools (Qlik preferred; strong Excel acceptable).
  • SAS / Python exposure.
  • Banking or regulated environment experience.
