 Staff, Software Engineer

Job Description

Position Summary... What youll do...

People Data Platform Powering Secure, Enterprise-Scale People Insights at Walmart .The People Data Platform team at Walmart owns the centralized People Data Lake that enables trusted, cross-domain people insights across the enterprise. We build and operate a scalable data platform on GCP, ingesting data from multiple source systems and transforming it through a robust medallion architecture to deliver high-quality, analytics-ready data.

Our team designs data and semantic models that empower HR, business, and analytics teams to make data-driven decisions at scale. In parallel, we lead the Data Security charter for the People Data Lake, implementing encryption, masking, and fine-grained access controls to protect sensitive data while ensuring compliant and governed access.

The Workforce Intelligence Platform (WIP) builds the access and experience layer on top of this foundation-enabling secure, personalized, and scalable analytics consumption. WIP combines query execution, dynamic access control (RLS, CLS, ABAC), and API-driven architecture to power dashboards, applications, and AI-driven data interactions.

Operating at the intersection of big data, cloud, security, and platform engineering, we are building a future-ready analytics platform that supports one of the world s largest workforces.

We are looking for a Staff Full Stack Engineer to lead the design and development of WIP as a scalable, secure, and extensible analytics platform. This role will drive end-to-end architecture across frontend, backend, and data access layers, with a strong focus on performance, security, and platform capabilities.

You will work on solving complex problems such as dynamic data access, real-time security enforcement, high-scale query execution, and AI-driven analytics experiences, while mentoring engineers and influencing platform direction.

What you will do

Own end-to-end product and platform experience, spanning frontend (React) to backend services and data access layers

Design and build intuitive, high-performance UI/UX for dashboards, filters, and data interaction experiences

Develop responsive, scalable frontend applications using React, TypeScript, and modern UI frameworks (AG Grid, charting libraries, component systems)

Partner with product and design to translate complex data workflows into simple, user-friendly experiences

Build and optimize backend services (Java/Spring Boot or Python/FastAPI) for query execution, caching, and analytics delivery

Lead development of dynamic access control systems (RLS, CLS, ABAC) enforced at query time

Build variable-driven query frameworks enabling reusable and flexible analytics experiences

Optimize performance across the stack, including frontend rendering, API latency, caching, and BigQuery interactions

Drive API-first design and platform extensibility, enabling integration with internal tools and workflows

Contribute to AI-enabled user experiences (NLQ interfaces, semantic discovery, AI-assisted workflows)

Ensure high reliability, observability, and scalability across distributed systems

Mentor engineers and elevate engineering and UX standards across the team

What you will bring

7-9 + years of experience building scalable full-stack applications and platforms

Strong expertise in frontend development (React, TypeScript, modern state management, component-driven architecture)

Experience building data-heavy UI applications (dashboards, tables, filters, interactive visualizations)

Proficiency with UI libraries and tools such as AG Grid, Recharts/D3, or similar visualization frameworks

Strong understanding of UI/UX principles, with ability to design intuitive and performant user experiences

Solid backend experience with Java (Spring Boot) or Python (FastAPI) and API design (REST/GraphQL)

Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and high-scale platforms

Familiarity with data systems (BigQuery, SQL optimization, large datasets)

Hands-on experience with performance optimization across frontend and backend (rendering, caching, concurrency)

Strong understanding of security concepts (RBAC, RLS, CLS; ABAC is a plus)

Experience with cloud platforms (GCP preferred) and modern DevOps practices

Proven ability to design scalable systems and influence architecture decisions

Strong collaboration skills to bridge engineering, product, and design
