Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: B.E /B.Tech (Instrumentation Engineering / Electronic & Instrumentation) from a recognized institute.
  • Experience: 10 to 15 years of experience in Plant Instrumentation in Manufacturing from pharmaceutical or chemical industry.
  • Specific Skills: Strong exposure to API manufacturing environments, hazardous area instrumentation, and regulatory compliance expectations. Expertise in instrumentation systems, control systems, automation, and field instrumentation. Strong understanding of cGMP, GEP, regulatory audits, and pharmaceutical documentation systems. Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills. Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage cross-functional stakeholders. Knowledge of HAZOP, SIL, risk assessment, and engineering safety practices. Vendor and contractor management expertise.

Core Role Responsibilities

  • Instrumentation Asset Integrity & Reliability: Ensure the asset integrity and reliability of all instrumentation assets across the site, including predictive analysis, failure mitigation, and lifecycle management. Use reliability engineering to predict, prevent, and control instrumentation failures and reduce lifecycle uncertainty and equipment risk.
  • Preventive, Predictive & Breakdown Maintenance: Develop and implement preventive and routine maintenance schedules for all instruments and control systems across production, utilities, and QC labs. Oversee troubleshooting, inspections, testing, and diagnostics of all field instruments, control panels, and automation systems. Ensure all equipment is in fully operational condition before production starts.
  • Calibration, Compliance & Documentation: Ensure timely calibration, qualification (DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ), and validation of instruments and control loops as per cGMP and regulatory requirements. (Supported by calibration and compliance responsibilities in instrumentation roles). Maintain compliant documentation aligned with GMP, Good Engineering Practices (GEP), and regulatory norms. Ensure adherence to statutory and regulatory norms for instrumentation systems.
  • Automation & Control Systems Management: Lead the management of DCS, PLC, SCADA, plant automation systems, and safety interlock systems (SIS/SIL). Oversee design reviews, logic changes, automation upgrades, and control strategy improvements. Ensure interdisciplinary coordination for instrumentation deliverables in engineering design, including P&IDs and control philosophies. Participate in HAZOP and SIL studies for new and modified systems.
  • Project Engineering & Plant Modifications: Support greenfield and brownfield projects by finalizing instrumentation specifications, drawings, and engineering deliverables. Ensure instrumentation compliance in all new installations, expansions, and upgrades. Review and approve design deliverables, specifications, and engineering documents.
  • Spare Parts, Inventory & Cost Control: Prepare annual instrumentation maintenance budgets and maintain optimal spare parts inventory to ensure uninterrupted production. Implement costsaving initiatives in maintenance, calibration, and equipment reliability.
  • Safety, Risk Management & Critical Systems: Oversee identification and management of safetycritical equipment and maintain required performance standards. Ensure proper functioning of alarms, interlocks, safety instrumented functions, and shutdown systems. Maintain compliance with plant safety norms during maintenance and instrumentation work.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, Utilities, EHS, R&D, SCM, and vendor teams to ensure optimal instrumentation performance. Engage with OEMs, service providers, and regulatory agencies for troubleshooting, audits, and compliance support.

Leadership, Training & Team Development: Responsible for instrumentation operations across the site. Identify training needs, develop competency frameworks, and build a highperformance instrumentation team. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, robust troubleshooting, and strong engineering practices.
