Data Governance Architect @ Wipro

Role Purpose

The Data Governance Architect will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between technology and business, delivering comprehensive client solutions that enhance data management and governance capabilities. This position is designed to provide strategic oversight and technical expertise to assess, design, and evolve data architectures across the enterprise, ensuring they harmonize with organizational goals and future industry standards.

This role requires a visionary mindset coupled with practical execution skills to modernize data platforms, streamline ingestion and processing workflows, and optimize consumption patterns for analytics and AI initiatives. The successful candidate will foster collaboration across business, engineering, and governance teams to ensure technology solutions are not only robust but also align with compliance and operational excellence.

The Data Governance Architect is responsible for a comprehensive and detailed assessment and future-state planning of the enterprise data architecture, spanning multiple data domains and technology landscapes. This includes evaluating current data storage solutions, ingestion frameworks, processing mechanisms, and consumption methodologiesensuring they are adaptive, scalable, and in harmony with both technological advancements and business strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Current-State (As-Is) Assessment
   • Conduct a thorough evaluation of existing data platforms, including on-premises infrastructure, cloud environments, data lakehouses, and data warehouses.
   • Analyse data ingestion and integration pipelines, covering batch, streaming, and real-time processes to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
   • Review data processing architectures and analytical workloads, evaluating their efficiency and alignment with organizational analytics goals.
   • Examine data consumption patterns, encompassing business intelligence, reporting, advanced analytics, and AI/ML applications.
   • Benchmark current architectures against industry-leading frameworks such as cloud-native models, lakehouse paradigms, and data mesh/domain-oriented architectures.
   • Identify architectural gaps, technical debt, and any existing design constraints that might impede scalability or performance.
2. Future-State Architecture & Solution Design
   • Develop forward-looking data architecture blueprints that embody modern data platform standards, scalable cloud-native design, and analytics/AI enablement.
   • Advocate for technology-agnostic, vendor-neutral solutions, leveraging prior experience to select appropriate tools and platforms.
   • Establish and document enterprise-wide standards governing data ingestion, modeling, storage, access, interoperability, and architectural patterns.
3. Roadmap & Capability Planning
   • Lead the creation of a comprehensive data architecture roadmap detailing target capabilities, phased initiatives, dependencies, and modernization priorities aligned with evolving business outcomes.
   • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to guide execution and ensure architectural adherence throughout implementation phases.
4. Governance Alignment
   • Partner with data governance and security stakeholders to embed governance, privacy, and compliance controls seamlessly within data platforms.
   • Advocate for embedding governance by design to ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks and internal policies.

Mandatory Skills

• Master Data Management (MDM): Proven expertise in designing and implementing master data management solutions that ensure data consistency, accuracy, and governance across multiple domains.
• Strong background in data architecture principles including cloud-native and lakehouse technologies.
• Experience with data ingestion frameworks (batch, streaming, real-time) and integration pipelines.
• Knowledge of modern analytics ecosystems supporting BI, AI, and machine learning workflows.
• Familiarity with governance frameworks, data privacy regulations, and compliance standards relevant to enterprise data management.

Preferred: Experience engaging with multi-disciplinary teams including data governance, security, analytics, and engineering to create cohesive data solutions.

Experience Required: 8-10 years of relevant experience in data architecture, data governance, and MDM implementations.
