Job Description
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Full Stack Java Lead to drive the technical direction of our product engineering team. In this role you will combine deep hands-on expertise across the Java/Spring ecosystem and modern front-end frameworks with the ability to mentor developers, shape architecture, and deliver high-quality SaaS and POS solutions for the hospitality and e-commerce sectors. You will own end-to-end delivery of features, lead design reviews, and act as the bridge between engineering and product leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Define and evolve the application architecture for microservices-based SaaS and POS platforms, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability.
- Lead system design and technical design reviews; produce architectural decision records (ADRs) for significant changes.
- Establish and enforce coding standards, design patterns, and best practices across the full stack.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies, frameworks, and tools to improve developer productivity and product quality.
- Own technical debt backlog and drive strategic refactoring initiatives.
Hands-On Development
- Design, develop, and maintain complex features using Java/Spring Boot (back end) and React or Angular (front end).
- Build and optimize RESTful and event-driven APIs supporting POS workflows, payment processing, order management, and inventory systems.
- Implement performance tuning, caching strategies, and database optimization for high-throughput environments.
- Write production-grade, well-tested code and contribute to critical path deliverables alongside the team.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead and mentor a team of 510 full stack developers; conduct regular 1:1s, code reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Drive hiring efforts screen resumes, conduct technical interviews, and help onboard new team members.
- Foster a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and collaborative problem-solving.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, UX Designers, QA, and DevOps to plan sprints, estimate effort, and ensure on-time delivery.
Process & Delivery
- Partner with engineering management to define roadmaps, release plans, and capacity planning.
- Champion Agile best practices; facilitate sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog grooming.
- Monitor production health, lead incident response, and drive blameless post-mortems.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Back End
- Expert-level proficiency in Core Java (817+), Spring Boot, Spring Security, and Spring Cloud.
- Deep experience designing and building microservices, event-driven architectures, and domain-driven design (DDD).
- Strong knowledge of message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and asynchronous processing patterns.
- Proficiency with ORM frameworks (Hibernate / JPA) and advanced SQL
Front End
- Strong working knowledge of React.js or Angular with TypeScript.
- Experience building responsive, accessible, and performant web UIs.
- Familiarity with state management libraries (Redux, NgRx) and modern build tooling (Vite, Webpack).
Database & Infrastructure
- Advanced experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) including schema design, indexing, and query optimization.
- Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB) and caching layers.
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS preferred; Azure/GCP acceptable) services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, RDS, S3, Lambda, and CloudWatch.
DevOps & Quality
- Experience designing CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Strong Docker and Kubernetes skills for container orchestration.
- Advocate for test automation unit (JUnit, Mockito), integration, and E2E (Cypress, Playwright).
General
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 814 years of professional software development experience with at least 23 years in a lead or senior lead capacity.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to make pragmatic trade-off decisions between speed and quality.
Preferred / Good-to-Have
- Prior experience in the hospitality, POS, or e-commerce domain familiarity with payment gateways (Stripe, Razorpay, Square), order lifecycle, kitchen display systems, or table/reservation management.
- Experience building and operating multi-tenant SaaS platforms with tenant isolation, feature flagging, and usage metering.
- Knowledge of API gateway patterns (Kong, AWS API Gateway) and service mesh (Istio).
- Exposure to observability stacks Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, Datadog, or New Relic.
- Experience with GraphQL and real-time communication (WebSockets, SSE).
- Familiarity with security compliance frameworks relevant to payments (PCI-DSS) or data privacy (GDPR).
- Contributions to open-source projects or published technical blogs/talks.
