Job Description
Role & responsibilities
User Experience Design
- Conduct user research and stakeholder consultations to understand user needs and workflows
- Develop user personas, journey maps, and interaction flows
- Design intuitive user experiences tailored to technical and non-technical users
User Interface Design
- Create wireframes, mockups, and high-fidelity UI designs for web and mobile applications
- Develop consistent design systems and UI components
- Ensure responsive and adaptive design across devices and screen sizes
Data Visualization and Dashboard Design
- Design interactive dashboards for real-time monitoring of hazards and risk information
- Translate complex meteorological, geospatial, and analytical data into clear visual representations
- Enhance usability of decision support systems through effective visual hierarchy and layout
Collaboration and Development Support
- Work closely with full stack developers, GIS experts, and AI/ML teams to implement designs
- Ensure accurate translation of UI/UX designs into functional applications
- Participate in design reviews, sprint planning, and iterative development processes
Usability Testing and Optimization
- Conduct usability testing and gather user feedback
- Continuously improve interfaces based on user insights and performance metrics
- Ensure compliance with accessibility and usability standards
Documentation and Capacity Building
- Develop UI/UX guidelines, style guides, and design documentation
- Support training sessions and knowledge transfer for internal teams and stakeholders
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor in line with project needs and priorities.
Deliverables:
- User-centered UI/UX designs for DSS platforms and applications
- Wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity design assets
- Design systems and reusable UI component libraries
- Interactive dashboards and visualization layouts
- Usability testing reports and improvement recommendations
- UI/UX documentation and design guidelines
- Regular progress updates aligned with project timelines
Preferred candidate profile
Education:
- Bachelors or master degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, or a related field
Experience:
- Minimum 24 years of experience in UI/UX design and front-end development
- Strong portfolio demonstrating user-centered design for web and/or mobile applications
- Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch
- Experience with frontend technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and frameworks (React or similar)
- Experience designing dashboards and data visualization interfaces
- Understanding of responsive and adaptive design principles
- Familiarity with usability testing and user research methodologies
- Experience working with complex systems (e.g., dashboards, analytics platforms, GIS tools) is highly desirable
Technical Skills (Desirable):
- Experience with data visualization libraries (e.g., D3.js, Chart.js, ECharts)
- Familiarity with GIS-based interfaces and map-based UX design
- Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG)
- Experience collaborating with developers using design systems and component libraries
- Basic understanding of API-driven interfaces
