Job Description
Job Summary:
The Tax Calling Associate plays a critical role in supporting mortgage servicing and origination by obtaining accurate property tax information from government agencies and county tax authorities across the United States. This position involves direct phone and online communication with tax offices, researching tax assessment and payment details, and analyzing how taxes are calculated for residential and commercial properties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contact county tax offices, municipal agencies, and local authorities to obtain property tax information via phone, email, or online portals.
- Request, verify, and document property tax amounts, due dates, delinquency statuses, and payment histories.
- Research and interpret various tax calculation methods, including millage rates, assessed values, exemptions, and special assessments.
- Record and update tax data accurately in internal systems for use in mortgage servicing, escrow analysis, or loan origination.
- Coordinate with internal departments such as Escrow, Loan Servicing, and Title to ensure timely procurement and verification of tax data.
- Identify and escalate issues such as discrepancies in tax records or inaccessible tax offices.
- Maintain a high level of compliance with state and federal regulations regarding tax information handling.
- Manage multiple tax inquiries simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
- Stay informed about changing tax regulations, deadlines, and procedures across various U.S. jurisdictions.
Qualifications:
- bachelors degree preferred.
- Experience in mortgage, real estate, tax research, or related fields is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially phone etiquette.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and tax software platforms.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with U.S. property tax systems, terminology, and documentation.
