Job Description
- The Engineering Manager is responsible for directly managing, supporting, and providing direction and motivational leadership to their team, to achieve project deliverables to a high standard. As an Engineering Manager, you must lead by example by implementing the Sondrel culture to create a high-performing team and to deliver on commitments. You will contribute to projects in the role of a physical design lead and ensure that the engineers assigned to the project are oriented towards achieving timely and top-notch quality milestones. It is essential to assume a hands-on approach by working on physical design and closure of subsystems or full-chip and lead by example. Display customer intimacy by demonstrating clear and customer-focused communication, issue resolution, and delivery beyond expectations while developing this approach with the team. Working with broader engineering teams and engineering management to constantly improve methodologies and adopt best industry working practices is a key aspect of the role. You will provide expert advice and debugging capabilities to critical issues across multiple projects and take ownership and responsibility by motivating direct reports to manage their time and deliver on day-to-day tasks. Planning the physical design activities from the beginning of the project all the way to tapeout is crucial. Additionally, providing inputs and feedback on engineering effort estimations for new projects throughout the bidding stage and liaising with potential customers if needed are part of the responsibilities. Actively participating in social engagements and creating a culture of recognition to reward success and enhance collaboration is also expected. You will liaise with the EDA tool vendors to ensure that critical tool issues are followed-up and necessary support is provided. Collaborating with the Senior Engineering Manager to create a high-performing team involves continuously improving the team performance, managing employee-related issues, and setting SMART objectives in line with project deliverables. Identifying on-the-job experience, training, and development needs to encourage a culture of appropriate delegating and knowledge sharing is important. Furthermore, coordinating representation of Sondrel at universities, conferences, and trade shows, and presenting technical papers will be part of your role. Skills and experience required include management skills, customer engagement skills, technical skills in full-chip implementation, debugging capabilities, low power implementation techniques, and expertise in EDA toolsets. Desirable skills include experience in working with Microsoft Project for project planning and risk analysis, customer management, and crisis management. Possessing attributes such as building trust through open and transparent communication, reliability, dedication, ability to work under pressure, positive mindset, self-organization, and teamwork are crucial for this role.
