Assembler Specialist @ Amdocs

Job Description

We are looking for a skilled Assembler Specialist with strong expertise in IBM Mainframe Assembler (HLASM) to design, develop, optimize, and maintain high-performance system-level applications. The ideal candidate should have deep technical knowledge of low-level programming, z/OS architecture, and performance tuning.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, and maintain applications using IBM High-Level Assembler (HLASM).
  
• Optimize system-level code for performance, memory usage, and reliability.
  
• Work with z/OS components such as MVS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, batch processing, and system utilities.
  
• Debug and troubleshoot complex issues using tools like IPC/ISPF, Abend-AID, Fault Analyzer, or equivalent.
  
• Collaborate with system programmers and application teams for integration and performance improvements.
  
• Create and maintain technical design documentation.
  
• Participate in code reviews and adhere to coding standards.
  
• Analyze system dumps, abends, and performance issues.
  

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on experience in IBM Mainframe Assembler (HLASM).
  
• Solid understanding of z/OS architecture, memory management, and system internals.
  
• Experience with JCL, PARMLIB, PROCLIB, and batch job execution.
  
• Proficiency in debugging and performance tuning.
  
• Knowledge of CICS/IMS environment is an added advantage.
  
• Familiarity with tools such as:
  
• SPUFI/DB2 utilities (if DB2 interactions exist)
  
• Expeditor, Debug Tool, Abend-Aid, Xpediter
  
• Ability to interpret storage layouts, macros, and system data structures.
  
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  

Good to Have

• Knowledge of COBOL or PL/I for system integration.
  
• Understanding of Assembler macros, exit routines, exits (SMF, RACF), user exits.
  
• Experience in system programming tasks like exits, subsystems, or performance tuning.
  
• Exposure to DevOps on mainframe (Endevor, Changeman, ISPW).
  

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  
• Relevant certifications in Mainframe or IBM technologies are a plus.
