Job Description Trainer-Peer Review
Location: Chennai
Employment Type: Full-time
We are seeking an experienced Trainer to plan and deliver comprehensive training programs for newly hired Peer Review Assistant trainees. The Trainer will design, deliver, assess, and continuously improve training programs to ensure trainees acquire the knowledge and skills required to perform editorial support tasks efficiently and in alignment with quality standards. They will be responsible for onboarding, certifying, and upskilling trainees in critical editorial operations. The ideal candidate will have solid editorial experience in scholarly publishing and proven training or coaching capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement structured training programs for peer review trainees on journal editorial processes and standards.
- Deliver classroom and practical hands-on training covering key functional areas such as:
- Submission platform navigation and workflows (e.g., ScholarOne, Editorial Manager)
- Manuscript tracking and follow-ups
- Performing technical and administrative checks on initial, revised, and accepted manuscripts
- Professional email communication and journal mailbox management
- Reviewer selection and monitoring peer review timelines
- Journal reporting and status tracking
- Ethical standards, journal policy compliance, blinding, authorship issues, and papermill awareness
- Use varied instructional methods (presentations, demos, simulations, practical exercises) to enhance learning engagement and retention.
- Develop and administer assessments (quizzes, practical evaluations, project tasks) to evaluate trainee understanding and competency.
- Maintain accurate records of trainee progress, assessment outcomes, and training milestones.
- Certify trainees upon successful completion of training and competency evaluations, ensuring they are ready for independent responsibilities.
- Provide one-to-one coaching and on-the-job training to reinforce learning and build confidence.
- Conduct refresher training sessions regularly or as needed to reinforce skills, address performance gaps, and introduce updates to systems, tools, or editorial policies.
- Collect and analyze trainee feedback, QA results, and performance trends to refine and improve training materials and delivery.
- Modify training content, exercises, and assessment methods based on quality assurance trends and evolving operational needs.
- Designing screening tests, interview questions, or assessment criteria that align with training expectations and job needs
- Helping interview or evaluate candidates for suitability
Qualification and Prerequisites
- Postgraduate in Science
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- 2 to 5+ years experience in journal editorial operations, academic publishing, or training roles
Required Skills
- Prior knowledge/experience in peer review management systems and training
- Strong understanding of manuscript workflows, submission systems, and editorial support tasks
- Good organizational skills with the ability to track progress and maintain documentation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Forms) and training support tools
Desired Skills
- Familiarity with quality assurance processes, editorial ethics, and publication integrity standards
- Research publications: 1-2 scholarly article publications are desirable
- Experience in developing and delivering structured training programs and assessments
