Job Description
Role Purpose
To support the Head of Engineering & Maintenance in ensuring uninterrupted hospital operations through proactive preventive maintenance, optimal asset utilization, regulatory compliance, cost control, team capability building, and continuous process improvement across all engineering services.
Roles & Responsibilities
Engineering Operations & Asset Management
- Ensure proactive preventive maintenance of all biomedical, utility, and facility equipment strictly as per OEM standards and hospital protocols.
- Drive high uptime of critical equipment, minimizing breakdowns and ensuring rapid response and resolution.
- Oversee technical evaluation, commissioning, and lifecycle management of equipment to ensure optimal utilization and performance.
- Support implementation and enhancement of Building Management Systems (BMS) and ensure all critical assets are integrated and monitored 247.
- Monitor utility systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gas pipelines, RO/UF water systems, ensuring zero compromise on patient safety.
Financial & Cost Optimization
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost control for engineering operations, spares, AMC contracts, and capital investments.
- Drive initiatives for energy conservation, water management, and sustainability, including chilled water optimization and utility efficiency projects.
- Analyze breakdown and maintenance data to optimize inventory planning and spares management, reducing downtime and excess stock.
Compliance, Safety & Quality
- Ensure adherence to NABH, HTM, statutory, fire safety, and hospital engineering guidelines.
- Maintain accurate documentation for maintenance logs, audits, asset registers, and regulatory inspections with 100% compliance.
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to medical gas systems, electrical safety, fire safety, and critical utilities.
Process Excellence & Vendor Management
- Ensure strict compliance with SOPs, protocols, and work instructions across all engineering sub-functions.
- Manage and evaluate vendors, contractors, and service partners to ensure quality workmanship, SLA adherence, and cost effectiveness.
- Assign supervisors and engineers for audits, inspections, and quality checks of executed work.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Conduct daily floor rounds and interact with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders to understand concerns and resolve issues promptly.
- Participate in inter-departmental meetings to improve service quality and support patient experience and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with Operations and Clinical teams to support initiatives that positively impact OPIP conversion and patient flow.
Team Management & Capability Building
- Support the Head of Department in people management, workforce planning, and performance monitoring.
- Drive periodic training programs for engineers, supervisors, and technicians on safety, equipment handling, SOPs, and best practices.
- Ensure team participation in internal and external training programs to enhance technical and behavioral competencies.
- Mentor supervisors and engineers, building a strong succession pipeline for the department.
Strategic Support
- Assist the HOD in strategic planning, major CAPEX decisions, renovation projects, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Support cross-functional initiatives aligned with hospital growth, accreditation goals, and patient-centric outcomes.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of hospital engineering systems, utilities, and compliance requirements
